Review: The new beast from Honda - Mobilio MPV

Introduction

Without a reservation, one of the most awaited vehicles of the year Honda Mobilio was finally launched today with the car's price ranging from Rs. 6.49 lakh to Rs. 10.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This car was first showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo in February.
The particularly sporty RS-kit powered model of the MPV is priced at Rs. 10. 86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be on sale from September, 2014.
A strong differentiator, Mobilio claims to be best-in-class mileage, generous space, and powerful engine becomes a heavy weight in this new segment which is going to bump up sales for Honda for sure. One USP of this car is the feeling of SUV which easily accommodates 7-member family.

Getting to know  Honda Mobilio
The Mobilio comes with choice of two engines viz. 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel. Interestingly these engine also drive & thrust the new-gen Honda City. ARAU mileage of 24.2Km/l, the Mobilio's diesel is the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its club. The petrol engine also clocks about 17.3Km/l.

The Quality Guidance
Mobilio has borrowed its framework from Brio platform. The vital stats are as follows: 4,390mm in length, 1,680mm in width and 1,610mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,650mm, makes it one of the most spacious car in this segment.

From the front, it resembles the Brio and the Amaze slightly sportier. The package includes the new twin-slat chrome grille, LED projector head-lamps, roof-mounted spoilers, revised bumpers alloy wheels. It also doesn't mean too tall or elevated despite the ground clearance of 189 mm, which is higher than that of the Etriga and the Innova. The rear is also super attractive.
Honda has also boosted friction reduction in both engines to boost fuel efficiency. The 1.5-litre diesel mill is certainly impressive and is a little bit less noisy as compared to the one on the Amaze. The gear shifts are quick and smooth, with an equally smooth acceleration. The steering is just about average but is loaded with steering controls.

Other Features

Mobilio's diesel is comes with 98bhp and a 200Nm of torque on offer. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre i-Vtec offers 117bhp and 145 nm of torque with  the 5-speed manual on both variants.
Suspension is good and offers comfort on bad roads. Minimum turning radius of 5.2 metres on the petrol variant is quite convenient for city driving conditions. However, the turning radius on the diesel is marginally higher at 5.4 metres due to engine size and weight.
High tensile steel had been used in the Mobilio's frame to increase energy absorption and abate impact from any direction. The top end variants get dual front airbags and Anti-lock Braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD).
The beast on the road - Mobilio

One of the key need for any car consumer is the boot space. The car's boot/luggage space with all seats positioned is good enough for small bags/suitcases and the wide tailgate and the higher floor makes for easy loading and unloading. The third row can be folded completely, and offers 521-litres of cargo space.
Every row has enough leg room. This feature comes from Brio principle which too offers great deal of leg spaces. The rear AC vents, with controls, work great. Though A/C vents are missing in the third row, has a cup holder and a small area to put your mobile phone.

The dashboard of the Mobilio is borrowed widely from Brio. The console of the top-end variant receives a faux wood finish, whereas the base model gets beige-black interiors with fabric seats. The instrument cluster has expanded triple analog metres with white and blue illumination which gives the user slightly premium feel and better visibility.
