The Christmas season’s festivity around and with New Year around the corner, most of the people around the globe feels it’s the right time to buy a new gadget. In this particular post we shall focus on best smartphones you can buy this Christmas.

Our benchmarking is based on three factors – Quality, Features & Price. After rigorously inspecting and reviewing these parameters, six brands stood out the best in the league – Apple, Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC & Motorola.


Rank 1: iPhone 6 / 6 Plus


In 2014, the best smartphone of the year is definitely the new iPhone6. The iPhone 6 sports a 4.7-inch screen and is powered by latest iOS 8. It is a smooth, all-metal phone which is sleek and  fast with a spacious screen and the smoothest payment system.

If you are more hungry for screen size, then iPhone 6 Plus will suit your pocket but at premium price. The iPhone 6 sports an impressive 5.5-inch behemoth (which has about the same dimensions as the Note 4) adds optical image stabilization to its improved 8-megapixel iSight camera.

Note 4 is one of the premium launches by largest makers of Android phones in the world – Samsung. Note series from Samsung by large has been most successful offering by smartphone makers in last few years.Note is a 5.7-inch smartphone that runs on Android Kitkat that comes with a stylus for writing and navigation.

Traditionally LG has lacked the appeal and penetration when compared to its rival Samsung. However one of the smartphone from LG had caught our attention in 2014. The G3 from LG which comes with loaded features like premium metal chassis, a 5.5-inch 1,440p HD display and 13-megapixel camera.

The phone is powered by Android Kitkat out of the box. The G3's display has an amazing 538 pixels per inch (ppi), while the iPhone 5S stops at 326ppi. That's 65 percent more pixels than Apple's handset. The G3 comes with a redesigned Android 4.4 user interface (UI) that's very clean and flat. Powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor produces 2.5GHz processing speeds.

Sony is known for smartphones with high octane for music. The Xperia series from the Japanese smartphone maker has its own niche and followers. The Z3 from Sony is an edgy, water-resistant and a 20.7-megapixel camera enabled smartphone. It can also stream PS4 games through a feature called Remote Play.

So far 2014 has been dominated by Android smartphones, however one phone that gave much needed thrust to Windows OS for Mobile was HTC One M8.  While M8’s camera isn't best-in-class with underwhelming Window App Store, the elegant and macho HTC One M8 is an enticing alternative to Nokia models.

In our top 6, the final hat goes to Droid Turbo from Motorola which has received a lot of accolades and traction in media and social network. General Observation & Verdict

All the above phones listed made it to our top-6 contenders for this festive season. We have kept Nexus series out of the race as our intent was to compare the smartphone makers (OEM) and Nexus is more of a flagship phone.

On price factor Droid Turbo is our choice and from niche appeal it’s the iPhone 6 Plus.
