Review: Xiaomi Mi 5 with Sapphire display & MiPad 2 Tablet sporting Intel SoC (Leaked details)

Introduction

Xiaomi has been expanding its base quite aggressively in last couple of months. It had been so far been very successful in carrying out pre-launch buzz around the globe and this time it is targeting CES 2015 to unveil its two smartphones viz. Mi 5 or Mi 4S along with much awaited MiPad 2 tablet.

From reports from DigiTimes, the smartphone specifications & image leaked suggests that phablet & tablet will sport a sapphire glass display, the first in Xiaomi’s device.

Getting to know about Mi 5/ Mi 4S & MiPad 2

By using sapphire as protective covers is normally complicated process which may potentially lead to these smartphones to be higher in price. Sapphire is sturdier and scratch-resilient compared to glass displays. Apple is already planning to use Sapphire displays in their high end phones, but Xiaomi plans to make the phone available at 1/3rd the price of iPhone.

Camera:  20.7-megapixel rear camera
Storage: 16 GB
OS: MIUI skinned Android Kitkat out of the box upgradable to Lollipop

 

For MiPad tablet MiPad 2

Display: 7.9-inch Retina display with a 2048x1536 pixels resolution
Processor & RAM: Intel chipset (1.8GHz), instead of using an Nvidia Tegra SoC with 2 GB RAM
Camera: Details not shared yet
Storage: 16 GB
OS: MIUI skinned Android 4.4.4 KitKat

General Observation & Verdict

While both Phablet & Tablet is still in the leaked phase, in coming weeks we shall have more clarity in terms of their overall value preposition. However going by Xiaomi’s launch history, they are masters in creating hype to its best. The end products are also quite in line with their hypes that too at affordable range.
