Review: Oppo U3 - A new 64 Bit smartphone

Introduction

Oppo has announced its all new U3. It was spotted on GFXBench in November and is now certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC).The smartphone has been announced for China without pricing information, and no global availability details have been provided. The phone look strong on specification and is one of the highlighted 64 bit device.

Oppo U3 is a 5.9'' is large screen device which qualifies more into the phablet segment rather than a cellphone. It has a full HD display and is run by a Octa-Core processor. The phone seems to have a fine glossy finish as-well

Oppo U3 has dimensions of 156.8 x 81 x 8mm which is a contrast to its slim siblings and weighs 195g

Processor & RAM: U3 comes with  MediaTek’s MT6752 64-bit Octa-Core chip clocked at 1.7GHz coupled with 2 GB RAM.

Camera: The Oppo U3's flashes a 13-megapixel rear camera comprising Sony IMX124 sensor.The front camera give a 5 megapixel density.

Storage: Oppo U3 has 16GB internal memory which is expandable upto 128 with external SD card.

Battery: The phone has a large 3000mAh battery which should last easily for a day with average use.

Display: Oppo U3 has a 5.9-inch full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080) display which is covering 75% of its front side, which is impressive. The phone has Android 4.4.4 KitKat which has a further topping of Oppo’s ColorOS 2.0.1 UI.

General Observations & Verdict

The phone has impressive features and qualifies into above the average phablet. Oppo U3 was rumored to have the Optical Zoom included, but that’s not the case.

The pricing will be  important in determining if this cellphone will be success in the market. It is however going to be in range of $450.
