India is soon going to be home of Chinese (SAIC) owned UK based automaker called MG Motor. The manufacturing facility was inaugurated in Halol, Gujarat last year with an investment of Rs 2000 Crore ($300 Million) and will have production capacity of 80,000 units per year. The automaker have revised its investment plans to Rs 5000 Crores now i.e. $770 million. Let’s get into more details what it means for India.

1. MG Motors will roll out it’s first CAR perhaps a SUV in 2nd quarter of 2019.
2. The first SUV is likely to be the ZS or the GS.
3. The automaker will be targeting 80% localization of parts which will make it appealing price wise.

4. MG Motor India is targeting to launch 1 new car every year from 2019 and 1000 new people have already been hired at the plant.
5. The car maker is also exploring electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell technology for India and will be conducting feasibility studies in years to come.
6. For now The company is waiting for a strong electric vehicle policy and needs a proper charging infrastructure.
7. MG Motors plans to establish 300 customer touch points over next couple of years (which may include service centres as well).
8. The state-of-the-art facility, spread over an area of 170 acres, will be completely revamped by MG Motor by 2019.

10. Last year, British automotive marque Morris Garages moved a step closer towards establishing full scale operations in the country, with MG Motor India completing acquisition of Halol plant in Gujarat from General Motors.
