Review: Xiaomi MI Note - The iPhone Killer

Introduction

Xiaomi has released the much awaited flagship smartphone MI Note. There were several buzz and teasing going around for last few days. Xiaomi MI Note is placing itself as Apple Iphone 6 plus with many referring to the device as Apple Killer.The event, which took place in Beijing, saw constant comparisons between the e Mi Note to the iPhone 6 Plus.

Xiaomi has of late become the forefunner of the providing the best possible specs in most reasonable prices and is catching up the traditional Samsung, Apple flagship market.

Getting to know about MI Note

The iPhone 6 Plus-sized handset is sleek metal and glass finish, affordable and has exceeded specification expectations.


The smartphone features a 5.7-inch 1080p display with a thickness of 6.95mm, shrouded in gently curved glass (in fact, Xiaomi refers to the Gorilla glass covering the front of the phone as "2.5D").

Build & Quality

Xiaomi claims that it is thinner than the iPhone 6 Plus, with dimensions 155.1×77.6×6.95mm (hxwxd) and weighs 161g. The phone is also protected by Corning Gorilla glass 3.

Processor & RAM: The MI Note sports the premium Snapdragon 801 processor which can support upto up to 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm® Krait™ 400 CPU. This combined  with 3GB RAM makes it a beast of burden for any type of
tasks.

Camera: The Mi Note has a 13MP rear camera comprising of Sony’s CMOS sensor. The Camera can shoot at f2.0 aperture in low light conditions.With the addtion of optical image stabilisation the images are extremely fine in quality. The company claims that it uses a dual-tone flash developed by Phillips for more natural-looking colours in photos. Mi Note has a 4MP front camera with large 2 micron pixels.

Storage: MI Note with comprise of 16GB and 64GB storage options and there’s no card slot for increasing the storage capacity.

Battery: The phone has a large 3000mAh battery which should last easily for a day with average use.

Display: MI Note has slighter larger sceen at 5.7inches when compared to iPhone 6 plus which stands at 5.5 inches. It has full HD display. Xiaomi has come up with what it calls Nela Tech LCH which offers  higher contrast and dynamic pixel adjustment for better readability outdoors and improves contrast of darker areas in photos. The pixel density of MI Note is 386 which means the icons are smooth.

General Observations & Verdict

Mi Note official pricing is about Rs 22,900 (2299RMB), while the 64 GB model set to launch for Rs 27,900 (RMB 2,799). There is no confirmation whether this phone will be shipped to India soon.

The phone undoubtedly has amazing  specifications and can be compared to Apple iPhone 6 plus on several front. The phone is well priced and anything less than this would be a loss for manufacturers.

An exceptional phone at this price range and a good alternative to those who still have time to save for the big Apple.
