Nissan has been in India for around quite some time. However except for Micra & Terreno, they have not been able to capture the Indian market by storm. But this may soon change, by introduction of Nissan Kicks Compact SUV which made its global debut in 2016. Nissan may potentially launch the Kicks SUV in India by December this year.
a) Kicks SUV is based on Nissan's V platform, however for India debut it may use the M0 platform which is currently used by Renault for the Duster, Lodgy and even the Captur.
b) Using existing framework will help in increasing localisation of content and therefore the prices will remain competitive.
c) Nissan Kicks will have its own bodyshell and will not be a rebadged model but it will still share similar engines and transmissions i.e. 1.5-litre K9K diesel and 1.6-litre petrol.
d) Gearbox will come loaded with a six-speed manual for the diesel and a five-speed manual for the petrol. The petrol-powered Kicks could also come with a CVT gearbox.
e) Nissan Kicks will however come in its own unique looks - sharp, muscular yet offers very fresh appeal to young buyers.
f) Exaggerated wheel arches, Ridged bonnet and raked rear windscreen complemented by Blackened A-, B- and C-pillars at the roof offers a ‘floating’ effect which adds to its beauty.
g) The interiors will be feature loaded and will sport 7-inch infotainment system, automatic climate control and 4 cameras to help park and manoeuvre the car.
h) Nissan Kicks may be priced at a premium (i.e. above the Terrano).
i) It will compete directly with Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and even the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Safari & Ford EcoSport.
h) Quick Facts: Kicks SUV was the official car of the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games. Nissan has had an investment of R$750 million for the crossover and is produced at the Resende Industrial Complex in Rio de Janeiro State.
